David SeibertCounty Commission Chairman, Limestone County Alabama
David Seibert is in his second term as Chairman of the Limestone County Commission. He was elected in November of 2002. Prior to that, David was the District Four Commissioner for 2 terms.
David was born September 26, 1947 in Birmingham to Charles and Mary Glynn Seibert. He graduated from Ramsay High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Pre-Law from the University of Alabama in January 1970.
David moved to Limestone County in 1970 to teach special education at West Limestone High School. His plans were to enter Law School at the University of Alabama for the fall term. He liked Limestone County and students so well that he changed those plans and began a teaching career that lasted 27 years. During that career he was a school bus driver for 20 years and an Assistant Football Coach for 15 years. He was also the first Director of the Athens-Limestone Opportunity Center later to become the Birdie Thornton Opportunity Center. He retired from teaching upon election to the Limestone County Commission. He is a Veteran of the U.S. Army.
Chairman Seibert manages a County with a budget of $25 million and employment force of over 200. The 70,000 Residents of Limestone County depend on the Limestone County Commission for many vital services and Chairman Seibert has worked to insure the continuation of these services despite the economic downturn of the past years.
The Limestone County Commission has been aggressive in its building and renovation programs. In 2004 two new building projects were completed, a 288-bed Detention Facility-Sheriff's Administration Building and a Courthouse Annex, housing the Probate Judge, License Commissioner, and Revenue Commissioner. In 2006 a renovation project was completed for the Community Corrections Program. Currently the Commission is remodeling the Courthouse and renovating a warehouse to utilize as an Event Center. The Limestone County Commission has also begun the demolition of the old jail and renovation of the Board of Education.
David married the former Patti Garret of Birmingham in 1968. They have 2 children, Chris Seibert and Monica McConnell. Chris is married to Tiffany Davis and they have two sons, Brock and Ben. Monica is married to Brian McConnell and they have two sons, Caleb and Carson.
