The Birmingham News: High-Speed Rail Study Benefiting Alabama, Other States Nears Completion (AL)

Members of the Southern High Speed Rail Commission said Friday they plan to complete a study by June that will help Alabama and neighboring states tap into $13 billion in federal stimulus money set aside to develop high-speed rail corridors across the nation. Richard Finley, chairman of the commission, said there is momentum in the Alabama Legislature and support from state officials to fund a high-speed train from New Orleans through Birmingham to Atlanta.
