Journal of Commerce: LaHood Eyes Funding for Ports
From Journal of Commerce:
Port intermodal projects should qualify for special federal funding under a grant program in the Recovery Act, said Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. In remarks to a National Retail Federation conference in Washington, D.C., LaHood said ports should find they qualify for aid when his department soon issues guidelines for applications to a $1.5 billion discretionary grants funding pool. The stimulus law allocated $48 billion for quick-start funding for highways, transit and airport projects. While states were allowed to include freight rail and port projects in their highway allocations, by far most of that money went into road resurfacing projects and bridge repairs for highway traffic.
