PBS: Senate vs. House stimulus spending on transportation infrastructure
From PBS:
Both versions of the bill – which was originally proposed as a new New Deal by the President as a stimulus in public works spending to create jobs and, at the same time, rebuild America’sinfrastructure – are filled with tax cuts. Among these, an $11 billion provision to make interest payments on most auto loans and sales tax on cars deductible – this appears only in the Senate version and not in the House. In the Senate: $46 billion for transportation projects, including $27 billion for highway and bridge construction and repair and $11.5 billion for mass transit and rail projects. In the House: $47 billion for transportation projects, including $27 billion for highway and bridge construction and repair and $12 billion for mass transit, including $7.5 billion to buy transit equipment such as buses; $12.4 billion in rail and mass transit projects.
