Sacramento Biz Journal: Transportation challenge: Find ways to keep seniors moving

More easy-access buses and pedestrian-friendly streets, bigger handles, knobs and switches in cars and brighter highway signs are just some of the ways transportation officials are trying to keep Americans moving in their senior years.  It’s a big-time challenge, as baby boomers age and don’t want to give up their independence. Already one in five people age 65 and older don’t drive, and many more will lose their driver’s license in the coming years, said Rosemary Sheridan, vice president of communications and marketing for the American Public Transportation Association in Washington, D.C.
