Seattle Times: Public transit should play role in economic stimulus (WA)
PUBLIC transit means jobs. That's why five of our region's transit agencies worked together to identify more than 28 projects that are ready to start playing an immediate role in our region's economic recovery. There's no better way to spur economic recovery than to invest in transportation infrastructure and service. Unlike many other stimulus proposals, ours offer ironclad guarantees of lasting benefits. Our agencies are among more than 200 nationally with more than 700 projects ready to launch within 90 days of federal funding. These projects total more than $12 billion and would create and sustain more than 340,000 jobs, according to the American Public Transportation Association. We support the work of our congressional delegation to maximize the amount of support that flows to our region.
