Telegraph Herald: Culver pitches 'shovel-ready' plan (IA
From Telegraph Herald:
Gov. Chet Culver said he and Iowa's legislative leaders are "getting closer" to agreeing on how much to put into an infrastructure investment initiative. He's calling for $750 million and they were at $700 million when last consulted, Culver told about 50 people gathered Tuesday at Maquoketa City Hall. Whatever the final figure is, Culver said his jobs plan is vital for a time when the state is struggling to recover from the floods of 2008 as the national economic crisis continues.
Culver was in Maquoketa on his "Shovel Ready Tour," recruiting public support for a plan that he contends will get the state out of the recession "sooner than later." He was asking for help in convincing state legislators to side with him.
