Washington Biz Journal: Construction firms see tangible stimulus results
From Washington Biz Journal:
Local road construction companies have received more than $220 million in federal stimulus money in recent weeks, saving jobs and pumping money into the economy. Leading the pack of local recipients is Rockville-based Francis O. Day Co. Inc., which has won 10 contracts in Northern Virginia and suburban Maryland, totaling $66.31 million. Chantilly-based American Infrastructure follows with seven contracts worth $39.1 million. The projects are funded by the $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which President Barack Obama signed in February. To date, Virginia has awarded 71 contracts, Maryland has announced 18, and the District has awarded three.

“More than any single action by the government since the end of the war, this one would change the face of America with straightaways, cloverleaf turns, bridges, and elongated parkways. Its impact on the American economy—the jobs it would produce in manufacturing and construction, the rural areas it would open up—was beyond calculation.”
