The White House Blog: Investing in Infrastructure
Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner authored a post on the White House Blog, arguing for the merits of the Obama administration's proposed National Infrastructure Bank (NIB). In the post, Geithner says:
We will support projects that produce significant returns on our investment, allow Americans more choices in their modes of transportation, and improve the interconnectedness of our existing transportation networks to maximize the value of our current infrastructure.
He argues that government needs to spend wisely, and that investments in the right kinds of infrastructure will see a good return for the American taxpayer. The NIB will ensure that the government is not spending money on "bridges to nowehere," but is instead spending it on projects that will expand transportation to the benefit of all Americans.
