The New Republic: Helping Those Who Help Themselves
The federal transportation finance system is broken and will be short on cash for the foreseeable future. Some regions—like the growing Phoenix, Salt Lake, Las Vegas, and Denver metropolitan areas—have meanwhile achieved system viability through unusual self-help yet even so face massive outstanding maintenance and capacity needs…In short, MAG is suggesting that the federal government help those who are helping themselves and so help them to address the nation’s pressing infrastructure needs.

Grand Rapids Opinion: Editorial: A better route for road funding is required to save jobs, cars and economic development
Here’s more evidence, if any were needed, that the Michigan Legislature needs to find a fresh infusion of money for roads: a new study that lays out the cost of inaction in jobs, car repairs and economic development. The study, commissioned by the Michigan Chamber of Commerce and conducted by the Anderson Economic Group, is an urgent reminder that Michigan’s roads are headed quickly downhill. If lawmakers don’t do something soon, Michigan will lose a truck-load of federal highway money, substandard roads will get worse through neglect, and drivers will run into still higher car repair bills.
