WASHINGTON, DC – May 16, 2013 –Today Building America’s Future applauded Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley for signing into law legislation to increase revenue to pay for much needed road, bridge and tunnel upgrades and repairs. Maryland joins neighboring Virginia, along with Wyoming and California, in enacting bold solutions to fund critical transportation projects.
“It takes leadership and courage to raise revenue, and Maryland legislators and Governor O’Malley deserve a lot of credit for stepping up and proposing a plan to modernize their state’s transportation network. By tying this increase to inflation, Maryland will be able to invest more in the state’s roads, bridges and tunnels as well as mass transit,” said former Pennsylvania Governor and co-chair of Building America’s Future, Ed Rendell. “The cost of inaction is too high, and Maryland residents cannot afford the price of increasing congestion and deteriorating highways and bridges.”
