BAF Co-Chair and Former PA Governor Ed Rendell Applauds Introduction of the BRIDGE Act by Bipartisan Coalition of Ten U.S. Senators

Washington, D.C.—November 14, 2013 – Building America’s Future today released the following statement from co-chair and former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell applauding a bipartisan coalition of ten U.S. Senators for introducing the Building and Renewing Infrastructure for Development and Growth in Employment (BRIDGE) Act, which creates a new national infrastructure bank for the purposes of funding crucial transportation projects:

“Keeping America competitive in the global marketplace requires first-rate highways, bridges, ports, transit and a modernized aviation system.  I applaud the coalition for crafting bi-partisan legislation that recognizes that necessity,” said Building America’s Future co-chair and former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell.  “The BRIDGE Act employs a creative financing mechanism which leverages private investments with those from the federal, state and local sources.  It is a common-sense approach to attracting billions of private sector dollars to help finance important projects with tangible economic benefits.”

The BRIDGE Act received strong bipartisan support from lead sponsors Sens. Mark R. Warner (D-VA) and Roy Blunt (R-MO) and cosponsors Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Dean Heller (R-NV), Chris Coons (D-DE), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Roger Wicker (R-MS), Claire McCaskill (D-MO) and Mark Kirk (R-IL). Building America’s Future applauds these Senators for working across the aisle to address the challenges facing our nation’s infrastructure.

Earlier this year, Building America’s Future released its updated report, “Falling Apart and Falling Behind,” drawing attention to America’s decreased ability to compete in the global economy because of our deteriorating highways and bridges, congested aviation systems and insufficient freight systems. In its report, Building America’s Future outlines several recommendations for action, including establishing a National Infrastructure Bank.
