Building America’s Future Applauds Bipartisan Passage of Water Resources Reform and Development Act

Washington, DC—October 23, 2013 – Today the U.S. House of Representatives approved the Water Resources Reform and Development Act (WRRDA) by an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 417-3. Building America’s Future (BAF) applauds the House action and BAF co-chair and former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell issued the following statement:

“Today’s action by the House is great news and I congratulate Chairman Shuster and Ranking Member Rahall for their tireless efforts in crafting a bill with strong bipartisan input.  For too long our nation’s ports and waterways have been neglected, and as a result, the World Economic Forum has ranked the quality of U.S. ports 16th in the world behind countries like Iceland and Denmark.  The reforms included in WRRDA are much needed and will help to ensure America’s continued economic competitiveness in the global economy.  I urge Congress to quickly appoint conferees so that a final water resources package can be approved and signed into law this year.”

Last month, BAF and the National Association of Manufacturers released a new survey that highlights manufacturers’ concerns about America’s infrastructure.  According to the survey results, a majority of the 400 manufacturers polled believe that American infrastructure is in fair or poor shape and that roads in particular are getting worse.  There is strong agreement among participants that U.S. infrastructure is not positioned to respond to the competitive demands of the growing economy.  To read the full survey results, click here.
