Washington, D.C. – February 12, 2018 – Today, Building America’s Future Co-chairs, Former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell and Former Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood, issued the following statements in response to President Trump’s infrastructure plan:
“The bottom line is that you can’t fund a serious national infrastructure plan without significant federal investment. There are some positives to the President’s plan, but we need long-term solutions,” said Governor Ed Rendell. “Our roads are littered with potholes, and our bridges, rails, ports and dams are in desperate need of repair. The Trump administration cannot back away from the federal government’s responsibility to build infrastructure for the 21st century.”
“Our roads and bridges are crumbling, and we need to take sweeping action on a federal level to address the dire state of our infrastructure. President Trump’s proposal is a start, but it doesn’t nearly go far enough,” said Secretary Ray LaHood. “Our national government needs to make a commitment to our states with a substantial amount of direct, federal funding. We need to prioritize infrastructure with real dollars, not just empty promises, or we will continue to fall behind as a nation.”
