Mayor Karl Dean of Nashville, Tennessee Joins Building America’s Future

September 16, 2015 - Washington, D.C. – Building America’s Future (BAF) and the City of Nashville, Tennessee are pleased to announce that Mayor Karl Dean has joined BAF as a member. Building America’s Future, a bipartisan coalition of current and former elected officials, is co-chaired by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg (I), former Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood (R), and former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell (D).

Since taking office in 2007, Mayor Dean has invested more than $1.7 billion in building and renovating schools, parks, mass transit, libraries, police precincts, fire stations, roads, water and sewer infrastructure, greenways, sidewalks, bikeways, stormwater mitigation projects and other needed infrastructure.

“A city has to be willing to invest in itself if it wants to be a city that works,” Mayor Dean said. “If we didn’t work every year to upgrade our infrastructure, we wouldn’t be able to provide the quality of life our citizens demand and deserve, and many of our visitors wouldn’t bother coming back. I’m honored to join Building America’s Future and looking forward to helping it make the case for more infrastructure investment across the United States.”

“We are very excited to welcome Mayor Dean as a member of BAF,” said Building America’s Future President Marcia Hale. “Throughout his long tenure as mayor, Karl Dean has been a champion of smart infrastructure and transportation policies for Nashville that have resulted in a higher quality of life for the city and its residents. BAF is grateful that Mayor Dean will be sharing his experience and expertise with us and we look forward to working with him to modernize America’s infrastructure.”
