Washington, D.C. – Building America’s Future (BAF) is pleased to announce that Ohio State Senator Capri S. Cafaro has joined BAF as a member. Building America’s Future, a bipartisan coalition of current and former elected officials, is co-chaired by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg (I), former Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood (R), and former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell (D).
State Senator Capri S. Cafaro is the ranking member of Ohio’s Senate Committee on Transportation, Commerce and Labor. In June of last year, Senator Cafaro was dissatisfied with the budget proposal and offered an amendment that would fund the Local Safety Capital Grant Program, helping to rebuild Ohio’s infrastructure. She spoke out against the budget, noting that an increase in funding for public transit is a “prudent and overdue investment.” She has also served on the Ohio Transportation Oversight Committee on Rural Busing, the Joint Task Force on Department of Transportation Issues and as the former Vice Chair of NCSL’s Transportation Committee.
“In my time as a state senator, I have taken a leadership role in identifying and supporting creative methods of transportation and infrastructure finance,” said Ohio State Senator Capri Cafaro. “I have welcomed every opportunity to better our state’s transit systems and advocate for additional funding for infrastructure and public transportation whenever possible. Transportation and infrastructure finance is truly a passion of mine and I am excited to join Building America’s Future and continue my work beyond my tenure in the Ohio Senate.”
“BAF is excited to have State Senator Capri S. Cafaro join our ranks as a member,” said Building America’s Future President Marcia Hale. “Senator Cafaro has been a strong proponent of infrastructure in Ohio’s legislature and realizes the importance of strong infrastructure when it comes to economic vitality, both in Ohio and nationwide. We look forward to working with Sen. Cafaro in the months ahead.”
