Building America’s Future Educational Fund is a bipartisan coalition of current and former elected officials dedicated to raising awareness about America’s long-neglected infrastructure and advocating for increased l investment at all levels of government and finding ways to partner with the private sector. It is fitting that we launch this blog the same week that the House has finally passed a long-term surface transportation bill, only after several years of delays and 36 short term extensions.
We believe that while it is a good thing for states and cities to have certainty about levels of funding for the coming few years, the level of investment is still woefully inadequate. We also have infrastructure issues beyond the roads and bridges of surface transportation – the power grid, ports, airports, aviation technology, water and wastewater systems, inland waterways and dams all need to be modernized as well.
We look forward to using this blog to share ideas for what can be done to solve our infrastructure crisis, and how we can innovate and invest in the systems that make up the backbone of our country. The blog will feature BAF staff, co-chairs and members, and spotlight what leaders are doing on the local level to invest in their communities’ infrastructure needs.
